Social Commerce: Stocial Makes Stocks Social

By Rachel Schramm - 20/12/2011 07:00:00

Looking for a friendlier approach to stock trading? Stocial provides an approachable user interface that mixes social media, online games, and the stock market. Some investment-savvy consumers even use Stocial to help prove their trading prowess to potential employers. While it's still in beta stage, Stocial is a new social stock exchange site that's rapidly growing in popularity.

According to TechCrunch, Stocial is the "love child of StockTwits and Yahoo! Finance."[1] As a combination of realtime market and stock trend updates, key stories from the likes of Bloomberg News, the Wall Street Journal and Business Insider, and a live Twitter feed, Stocial focuses on keeping its users in the know about stock market movements,  large and small, using social media

Beyond the external business updates, Stocial also provides its users with a "Stock Pick" feed that displays what stocks other Stocial users are picking and sharing.  Further encouraging engagement, Stocial's social commerce and social stocks platform also allows its users to keep track of specific stocks in their account, customize their news preferences, and follow the stock picks and investments of respected experts.[1]

Stocial also encourages it's users to interact with the stock market by offering them powerful incentives for their involvement in the website. They hold brief contests in which users are rewarded with cash prizes for successful stock predictions. If enough badges are collected for successful predictions, a user can become eligible for a job interview at a stock trading firm.[1]

CEO Fahad Kamr describes his vision for Stocial as a platform that organizes aggregated stock data in a completely new way. He believes that “real-time content, trending tickers by social volume, and virtual stock picks”[2] can make stocks less intimidating and more accessible.

With their simple-to-use, customizable platform, Stocial offers one new approach to stock trading. Their focus on forecasting stock performance and sharing information is one that many users find useful and very attractive. Although the site is still in the testing phase, it is looking to raise funds and open it's doors soon.
