General FAQ

Where can I cash a money order?

Getting a money order cashed is easy. You probably live within a few miles of places that cash money orders – convenience stores, grocery stores, banks, credit unions or check cashing stores.

To cash a money order:

  • Take the money order to a location that cashes checks and money orders. You may want to research and compare fees beforehand.
  • Sign the back of the money order.
  • Show the teller or customer service representative your government-issued photo ID and any other required information.
  • Receive your cash.

Money orders are very much like checks. If you have a checking or savings account, you also have the option of depositing the money order directly into the account at your bank or credit union. However, banks and credit unions don’t typically let you electronically deposit a money order to your account as you would a check.
