Job Interview Tips

When you are interviewing for a position, you can never be over prepared. Below are more things to consider when preparing for a job interview.

Come Prepared.

Take some time and prepare for the interview. Bring extra copies of your resume with you, as well as any application materials, your Social Security card, some type of government-issued identification (such as a driver's license), a list of professional references, and a portfolio of your work, if applicable. Be ready to supply your interviewer with this information and talk more about it if prompted.

Have a Specific Position in Mind.

Discussing how your skills and experience could specifically benefit the company will improve your chances of securing a position with that company immensely. Remember that the company will be looking at you as a potential asset. By showing how much value you could bring to the company, you highlight a company need that the interviewer may be eager to fill.

Do Your Homework.

Prior to going to the interview, research the company and the specific position that you are targeting. Get to know the company's culture and use that knowledge to ask about their operations. Remember that an interview is not only an opportunity for the company to get to know you better, it's also a chance for you to see the company and decide whether or not you would be a good fit there.

Anticipate Potential Questions.

As part of your interview, you can expect to be asked about your prior experiences, your educational history and your interests that led you to that company. Anticipate these questions and prepare yourself to answer them. You may even want to write down some more general answers and rehearse them in front of a mirror or with a family member or friend.
